We are looking for a motivated, experienced writer to join our busy newsroom.Our ideal candidate will have skills across the editorial board, including print and digital, and will have at least a year under their belt in a newsroom or similar environment. We will also consider applications from motivated recent graduates from relevant fields who are looking for on-the-job learning opportunities. Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and high standards, you will be required to work independently and with minimum direction, filing stories for print and online over the nominated news cycle. Excellent writing, research and news gathering skills and a quality folio of published work are essential. Your skills will encompass both hard news and feature writing and you will be able to deal with a variety of topics and writing styles.You will be quick to establish networks and connections and confident in finding your own contacts and sources for the stories. A strong focus and a passion for the people and issues within the community are paramount. Ideally, you will show keen interest in politics, the ability to grasp the intricacies of local institutions and organisations, and a passion for local affairs.We want a good team player who can motivate and inspire others, and who will also challenge the status quo and bring fresh ideas to the table.A degree of experience in photography and video would be highly regarded, and knowledge of court reporting would be an advantage.A valid driver's licence and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and public holidays are essential.
