Sobriety improves sex life: Febfast
If you've been looking for a reason to give up the grog, this might help - about three-quarters of Australians say sex is better when they're sober. Febfast, a month-long campaign to encourage people to give booze a break, kicks off today.
By Fiona BroomIf you've been looking for a reason to give up the grog, this might help - about three-quarters of Australians say sex is better when they're sober.
Results from a febfast survey show 74 per cent of women and 68 per cent of men have a happier sex life without alcohol.
This is one of the benefits of not drinking being spruiked, as febfast kicks off today.
Febfast encourages people to stop drinking alcohol for a month, with money raised going to help young people with drug and alcohol problems.
Sexologist, relationship expert and febfast ambassador Nikki Goldstein said giving booze a break during February could help couples and singles.
“If you’re in a relationship, febfast is a great opportunity for you both to re-energise for the New Year, improve your mood, general health and, according to the survey, improve your sex life,'' Dr Goldstein said.
“For those looking for love in 2012, why not do febfast and try dating without alcohol in February? It might mean a happier Valentine’s Day.”
Febfast national director Howard Ralley said taking up the challenge could improve other areas of people's lives.
“Not only is it great for your health, you can also raise money to help highly vulnerable young Australians tackle serious alcohol and drug problems,” he said.
Jean Hailes for Women’s Health dietitian Terrill Bruere said alcohol was associated with celebration, being social and relaxing after a hard day, but it was easy to overdo it.
''So this February, give alcohol a rest, become more aware of how and why you drink and then make sure that when you do drink, it’s a conscious choice rather than just a habit,'' she said.
