It has been a whirlwind off-season for Shepparton South winger Samet Yollu, who looks set to land at rival Regional Premier League club Cobram.

Last month Yollu was on the verge of signing with Shepparton United, only to pledge his allegiance to South.

However, it now appears he has reached an agreement with the Tigers.

Yollu will link up with former coach Paul Amadei, who was hoping to finalise the deal at training last night.

The two were part of the Shepparton South side that won the 2009 premiership and Amadei said he was a player the club had been pursuing.

‘‘We’ve been keeping tabs on him and he’s been training well with South,’’ Amadei said.

‘‘We needed a wide right sided player, because we thought in last year’s finals we were a bit weak on the right hand side.

‘‘I knew Samet from when I coached him at South and I like the lad and know what he can do.

‘‘He’s got speed and technical ability, he’s strong on the ball and has a nice right foot to put crosses in.’’

Yollu burst onto the scene as an exciting young talent during South’s back-to-back premiership seasons of 2009-10.

However, his development was halted by a serious knee injury in 2010 and he has so far been unable to recapture his best form.

Amadei is hoping that will change this season.

‘‘I’ve known players that had knee problems and never had another problem and I’ve known players that have never been injured that have done the opposite,’’ he said.

‘‘Samet has had a good year off the game and only played a few games last year and he’s been training really well.’’

Yollu has informed South of his decision, and while Amadei was not willing to state the move was a sure thing, he was confident there would be no problems getting it across the line.

South president Sam Campi wished Yollu and Cobram luck, but said the new international player cap had left his club ripe for the picking.

‘‘Clubs with poor depth have to look to poach good local players,’’ Campi said.

‘‘Cobram just made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

‘‘It’s disappointing because at the end of the day Samet was one of the cornerstone people of our plan going forward.’’
