Pink Stumps Day will have added significance for Central Park-St Brendan’s captain Brendan Scott this year.

It was about this time last year his sister Jacque lost her fight with breast cancer and the cricket club has backed his bid to help show support for the McGrath Foundation by ‘‘turning pink’’ for day one of the Haisman Shield match against Kialla tomorrow.

‘‘We saw it on TV at the SCG Test and there’s a few guys in our side that their families have been affected by it, so I just said to the committee, ‘what do you think about doing this?’, and they were all for it,” Scott said.

‘‘My sister passed away about a year ago with breast cancer, so that was the reasoning for it, and when Pink Stumps Day was the date it was going to be, it was just around about that time as well.

‘‘If we can help some other people out that can get the treatment and the nurses (they need) it would be very good.

“It’s more about awareness and my family has sort of been affected by it and that was something that I wanted to try and raise a bit of money (for).”

The McGrath Foundation raises much-needed funds to provide breast care nurses to communities across Australia and provides education to increase breast awareness in young women.

Clubs participate in Pink Stumps Day by using a set of pink stumps and bails and wearing various pink items, including caps and collecting donations.

They are required to raise at least $500 on the day, but Scott said the Tigers were hoping to raise even more.

“Our aim is $700 and with the Australian Cricket Association game on Friday night Cricket Shepparton is allowing us to do a bit of a blanket run there,” he said.

“We’ve got a Ladies’ Day on Saturday, which is good for the women of the club, they’re going to get behind it and do an afternoon tea and all the proceeds from that go to the charity as well.”

Other Cricket Shepparton clubs participating in Pink Stumps Day are Northerners and Toolamba, as well as Benalla District Cricket Association clubs Delatite and Euroa.
