By Marc McGowanOrrvale Primary School’s two teams fought out the primary school final of the annual Northern Victoria School Tennis Championships at Numurkah on Monday.
Orrvale was the only primary school to enter two sides in the titles, which has run since 1996, and its strength shone through when both made the decider.
Strathmerton, Guthrie St, Tatura, Deniliquin South Public, St Francis Nathalia, Mulwala Public and Grahamvale were also in contention.
Orrvale One, which included Lachlan McMahon, Mitchell Gravina, Olivia Quigley and Jaslyn Ferguson, won four of the five sets in the final against Orrvale Two to claim a 17-game victory.
Quigley and Gravina, in particular, starred for Orrvale One, although Orrvale Two standout Emily Balaburov beat Quigley 6-4 in their singles clash in the final.
The No.
Tournament director Nick Ludington said the primary school final was played at a high level.
‘‘They were mainly from grades five and six, but there were a few grade four kids as well,’’ Ludington said.
‘‘It was definitely a high standard in the final and I haven’t seen 12-year-olds play like that before — it was unreal.’’
St Mary of the Angels Nathalia won the secondary title yesterday.
