Kyle Michel confirmed himself as a Shepparton Golf Club star of the future when he claimed back-to-back City of Greater Shepparton Junior Masters honours yesterday.
Michel, 16, shot a two-over 74 on the opening day of the junior tournament at Mooroopna on Sunday and a one-under 72 at Shepparton yesterday to claim the crown.
Michel, who plays off a handicap of one, said he had been pleased with his rounds, especially in tough conditions at Mooroopna.
‘‘I played pretty well across the two days,’’ he said.
‘‘It was a bit tough in the rain at Mooroopna, but I played all right, and here at Shepp I played really well.’’
Michel has played golf since he was able to walk.
His father Simon, the tournament director, is a keen golfer and his son followed him into the sport.
It started off with junior clinics at Shepparton and has progressed into tournaments across the state.
Michel said he thoroughly enjoyed the sport.
‘‘It is just a really fun game, a great game to play,’’ he said.
‘‘I am not sure what it is, but I just really like the sport.’’
He said he had been confident heading into the tournament, particularly with his knowledge of the Shepparton course.
‘‘It is a course I play day in, day out, so I know it pretty well,’’ he said.
‘‘It probably gives me a bit of an advantage.’’
