Kyabram District Football League has a new man in charge — although he is familiar.

Former league secretary-treasurer Greg Watson has taken over the presidency from Andrew Chittick, who stood down to take on a role on the new Goulburn Murray regional commission.

Watson will head up a restructured board.

Wayne Ryan (football) and Lynne McLean (netball) will be senior vice-presidents and Trevor Goode will be the junior vice-president.

Bree Boyle will be secretary-treasurer and will also serve as a publicity officer along with Sam Saracino.

Jo Backway, Leanne Good and Doug Tuhan fill the rest of the board’s positions.

Watson said he had people within the league approach him to put up his hand for the role.

‘‘I must have been doing something right,’’ Watson said.

The league has released its draw with the round one opener between Merrigum and reigning premier Violet Town being played under lights at Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Saturday, April 6.

Watson said the league had a similar opening-round showpiece ‘‘three or four’’ years ago and there had been renewed interest league-wide in playing night football.

‘‘There are certainly a few more wanting to do it,’’ he said.

‘‘It will be interesting to see how it all pans out, but Lancaster, who did it three or four years ago, are looking at it again.

‘‘They hope to get one.

‘‘But with this, it all really depends on the availability of grounds and circumstances.’’

Runner-up Undera will have to wait until round four to have another crack at the Towners in the grand final rematch.

Watson said the league had also secured Tatura Park to host its interleague fixture.

The KDFL will take on the Riddell District league.

Reigning premier Violet Town will start its premiership defence with a night game against Merrigum at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
