Eagle has form on his side

Talented pacer Almost El Eagle looks the one to toss when the first heat of the prestigious George Croxford Tribute series for three-year-old pacers starts at today’s Cobram Trots Club meeting.

Talented pacer Almost El Eagle looks the one to toss when the first heat of the prestigious George Croxford Tribute series for three-year-old pacers starts at today’s Cobram Trots Club meeting.

The Steve Duffy-trained pacer made a successful return at the Charlton meeting on February 21 with an effortless win.

Almost El Eagle is favourably drawn in barrier two today with the services of top reinsman Chris Alford and looks the testing material for all challengers.

The David Aiken-trained and Nathan Jack-driven Outlaw, who is returning to racing, may be the hardest to beat with recent winners Patchitupbaby and NSW raider Rusty Reject also well in the mix.

A $7000 heat of the Vicbred Platinum Series M for four-year-old and older C1 Only-class pacers is another feature on the program.

The Joe Anderson-trained and David Moran-driven Hoppyjoe will attempt to win his third successive race.

But it won’t be an easy assignment, with several in-form pacers, including the well-drawn Forbidden Forest, Dobop, Modern Velocity, Thisiswhoiam and The Ole Buckaroo, contesting the race.

Former club stalwarts in the late Tom Stillard and Bill Farrell, plus Jim Cox and Pat Brooks, are being honoured at the meeting with races named in their honour.

The interesting seven-race card kicks off at 1.51pm, with the final event at 5.34pm.
