Cobram-Yarroweyah United’s Kieren Andrew said he was ‘‘still in a bit of shock’’ after scoring his maiden century on Saturday.

A handy knock of 150 by Andrew has set Murray Valley Cricket Association premier shield division opponent Waaia an imposing task for day two of their round 13 clash.

Andrew was the final wicket to fall on Saturday, but the number three bat had done the damage as the visitors’ innings finished at 243.

He formed several partnerships after arriving at the crease with the side at 1-27, but the most significant was with last man Jack, Sam Fitzpatrick, for 81 runs.

Andrew said it was the first century he had scored at any level of cricket and was more than double his previous best of 73 runs scored against Tocumwal in round four this season.

‘‘I didn’t really know what to think, it hasn’t really sunk in,’’ he said.

‘‘It was good to get it, but at the same time I’m still in a bit of shock, but very happy.’’

Andrew said he was dropped twice, once on about 70 and again on about 120, but both times the fielders were unable to reel in the ball.

He was eventually caught after trying to up the run rate.

‘‘I was trying to get some late runs because the number 11 (Fitzpatrick), who did a good job of getting me to the ton, he wasn’t that confident of lasting that long,’’ Andrew said.

‘‘I thought I’d better get some runs and just ended up skying it to cover.’’

Andrew applauded Fitzpatrick’s efforts as he knocked up 14 runs of his own, which blew his previous best this season of three runs of the park.

He also praised United bowler Ben Davis for taking 3-20 from nine overs to have Waaia at 4-64 from 19 overs.

While Andrew was happy with his personal achievement, he was also aware of what it could mean for the team.

‘‘It was good to make 150, but hopefully we come away with a win, because it is a pretty important win,’’ he said.

‘‘If we can win this it would go a long way to getting us into the top four, which is the ultimate aim at the moment.’’
