Goulburn Valley Bowls Division’s men’s state singles championships will finish on Friday after preliminary matches were replayed on Sunday.
Ross Coulston was forced out of the tournament after being wrongly told he was able to take the spot of Hill Top teammate Justin Spedding.
Two of Coulston’s qualifying matches were replayed at Kyabram, with Doug Maconachie defeating Jeff McNaughton in the second round.
Maconachie then won his way through to the quarter-finals after overcoming Darren Boswood in the third round.
GVBD president Maurie Rowlands said the championships needed to be completed this week to avoid conflict with a challenge match against the Ovens and Murray division on Sunday.
‘‘Three of the quarter-finals were already determined, so we just had to replay two preliminary rounds and then play the quarter-finals on the same day,’’ Rowlands said.
‘‘The semi-finals and final have now been scheduled for completion on Friday and will be played at Shepparton Park to make sure we are covered for all conditions.’’
All of the quarter-finals were one-sided affairs, with Shepparton RSL’s Denis McHarry prevailing in an upset victory over Shepparton Golf’s Matt Robertson 25-15.
Shepparton Park young gun Josh Warren had a resounding win against fellow Parker Graeme Betts 27-7, while Shepparton Golf’s Mal Williams won 26-12 against RSL’s Glen Power.
Maconachie’s golden run ended after losing 25-9 to Shepparton Park’s Brad Orr.
Rowlands said the semi-final showdowns shaped as fascinating battles.
Warren will take on Williams, while Orr will play McHarry.
‘‘The great performances from Josh Warren continued and it will be a battle of young against old when he plays Mal, so that will be interesting and definitely one to watch,’’ Rowlands said.
