Kontany Carkeet, Jye Chalcraft, Rhys Damon and Pieter Jordan claimed a bronze medal in the under-12-13 boys’ medley.

The Shepparton under-12-13 boys’ medley team came away with a bronze medal at Saturday’s Little Athletics State Relay Championships at Lakeside Stadium.

It was the first state relay medal for the squad of Kontany Carkeet, Jye Chalcraft, Rhys Damon and Pieter Jordan.

The team finished in a time of 2:00.49, behind Sandringham and Coburg.

Shepparton Little Athletics team manager Karen Boschetti said the boys ran a superb race, not coming far off the top teams.

‘‘They ran very well, I think a lot of us had no voices after the end of the day,’’ Boschetti said.

‘‘We were up against some big clubs in Melbourne, so it’s a great effort from the boys.’’

It was a successful meet for the Shepparton club, with several other relay teams coming away with impressive results.

‘‘We were all day from seven in the morning until seven at night organising the kids and making sure they got to their races on time,’’ Boschetti said.

The under-12 girls’ 4x200m relay team placed second in its heat, before finishing fifth in the final, while the under-12 girls’ and under-13 boys’ 4x100m teams narrowly missed out on a medal, coming fourth in their respective finals.
