Despite and awkward barrier draw Knapdale Guy will be hard to beat in the C1 final at Shepparton tonight.By Gus Underwood
Barrier draws have thrown tonight’s C1 Only final at Shepparton Harness Racing Club’s meeting into the melting pot.
Endorsement, Knapdale Guy and Caribbean Striker have to overcome awkward barrier draws in the final following their heat wins at the Kyabram meeting last Sunday at Shepparton.
Endorsement has drawn a little wide in barrier six off the front row, while the other two heat winners Knapdale Guy and Caribbean Striker have to overcome second row draws.
This has opened the race right up with the well-drawn Fergus Mactavish, who did plenty of work in his heat when third to Knapdale Guy, now looking a great each-way chance from barrier three.
The Joe Anderson-trained Hoppyjoe, fourth in his heat to Knapdale Guy has fared even better in barrier two, while Ringtripleowe looks well in the race after drawing barrier four.
But the Steve O’Donoghue-prepared and Rebecca Bartley-driven Knapdale Guy still looks the one to beat.
His heat win was achieved in a considerably quicker time of 1:57.4 for the 1690
Another pacer from the Kyabram meeting who will be trying to complete back-to-back wins at tonight’s meeting is Blazing Orion.
The Col Godden-trained and Daryl Douglas-driven two-year-old has drawn barrier two, again over the short 1690
One of the most interesting races on tonight’s eight-race card will be the Benstud Trotters Handicap, race two where there is a host of genuine chances.
Chris Lang has a strong hand with last start Melton winner Kyvalley Rap shooting for three straight wins, while stablemate Kyvalley Castle will also be trying to repeat his success on the track at the last Shepparton meeting.
Lynsenko and Salute The Wind, last-start winners and co backmarkers with Kyvalley Rap, also have strong claims as does polemarker Miss Eliza who should be in the race for a long time with her impeccable standing start manners.
The C2-C3 class race, race seven, also has a host of winning chances with the talented Marty Miles-trained Post It Away, who is resuming and drawn the inside of the second row, capable of giving a great first-up sight.
The first race is at 6.25
