Hearn's hat-trick a bright spot in cricket campaign

Fire Brigade allrounder Scott Hearn provided one of the highlights of an otherwise unsuccessful Melbourne Country Cricket Week campaign for the KDCA when he bagged a hat-trick.

There weren’t many highlights in the KDCA’s unsuccessful Melbourne Country Cricket Week campaign last week but Fire Brigade allrounder Scott Hearn provided one of them.

In the Wednesday game against Warrnambool at Ivanhoe, the man affectionately known as ‘‘Hearny’’ bagged a hat-trick with his right-arm cutters after being thrown the ball after Warrnambool had posted over 100 runs for the loss of just one wicket.

In his sixth over, Hearn trapped opener Dustin Drew with his second ball, followed it up by clean bowling Nathan Murphy and then completed the hat-trick by trapping Josh Parkinson lbw with his next delivery.

The deadly burst initiated a batting collapse in which Warrnambool slumped to 8-133 before a late recovery enabled it to reach a respectable 9-191.

In reply Kyabram could manage only 92.

Hearn said his hat-trick feat was ‘‘a big thrill.’’

‘‘I got one against Toolamba years ago when I was playing in (KDCA) A-reserve grade, but it’s nice to get one at that level,’’ a typically modest Hearn said.

Scott Hearn's second career hat trick was a highlight in the KDCA’s unsuccessful Melbourne Country Cricket Week campaign.
