Tough day at the office for Country Week teams

Three of the teams — under 16A, under 16B and an under 14 team — played Cricket Shepparton on Monday, recording two wins, while the other under 14 team lost to Seymour District Cricket Association.

Tom Holman was the best of the bowlers, taking 2/14 from his seven overs, while Drew Barrett was the other wicket-taker.
Brendan Crouch was the main destroyer for Shepparton with the bat, scoring 60 retired.
In its reply, Goulburn Murray was struggling at 4/71, before a 30-run partnership between Jack Elliott (34) and Joel Felmingham (18) gave the side hope of victory.
Bendigo won the toss and elected to bat, with Coby Hansen (67 not out) and Brayden Stephen (51) putting Bendigo in a strong position early.
Holman (2/43) and Elliott (2/29) were the best of the Goulburn Murray bowlers, but the side had no answers as Bendigo raced to 5/200 from 35 overs.
Goulburn Murray’s run chase got off to a horrible start when Jacob Keenan was run out for a duck in the third over, only for Joel Felmingham (0) to join him the next over.
Six players were dismissed without troubling the scorers as the team crumbled to be all out for 36.
Jamieson Sheahan (4/1) was the chief destroyer for Bendigo, while sharp fielding resulted in three run outs.
The under 16A side plays Murray Valley Cricket Association at Tongala in the final game today.

Chasing Shepparton’s total of 5/143, Goulburn Murray needed nine runs off the final over and scored the winning runs off the last delivery, finishing with 6/145.

The team played Murray Valley at Katunga yesterday.
Its final match is today against Bendigo at Vic Park.

Needing about 3 runs an over, Goulburn Murray started slowly but kept wickets in hand throughout the chase.
Opener Mitch Frew was vital for the side, working his way into the game and eventually retiring on 40 not out.
Replacing him, Clayton Scott came in and finished the job with a powerful innings.
Scott struck one six and three boundaries in his unbeaten innings of 31 as he guided the team to a six-wicket victory.
Earlier, Scott also bowled well to take 2/15 from seven overs, while Harry Ripon took 1/17 from his six overs.

Playing at Stanhope, Goulburn Murray sent Seymour into bat but was unable to constrain the flow of runs, with Jake Gascoyne and P Bryan each taking two wickets.
Gascoyne also performed well with the bat, top scoring with 27 runs, while Matt Hinks also scored 16.
The team played Murray Valley at Cobram/Bendigo District at Echuca South yesterday.
The under 14 teams play away at Bendigo and home to Seymour at Rushworth today.
