Top four tennis spots undecided

The make-up of the top four in the Campaspe Tennis Association is still up for grabs with two rounds to play.

By Geordie Cowan

The top four may be decided in section one of the Campaspe Tennis Association, but competition could hardly be closer going into the final two rounds of competition.

Rich River has the lead — and has held it for most of the season — but a couple of recent stumbles including one against Lockington-Bamawm United on the weekend has left the final positions wide open.

The ladder-leader has 141 points, but is only four points clear of Rochester 2, with LBU and Rochester 1 a further three and five points back respectively, although Rich River has a handy percentage advantage from its competitors.

Echuca Lawn and Echuca South fill the final two spots.

The picture will become somewhat clearer after tomorrow as the top four teams play each other — all at Rochester — with fourth-placed Rochester 1 playing Rich River and Rochester 2 hosting LBU.

Lawn hosts South in the other match, with the result likely to determine the wooden spoon.

Rich River 4 should hold into top spot for the finals as it holds a 16-point advantage in section 2A from Lawn 2 and Echuca Village, with Echuca South 3 (131) a further five points behind.

Echuca South 4 (122) and Colbinabbin (119) retain some home of competing in finals, but must produce big results in the final two weeks.

LBU 2 has secured the minor premiership of the four-team strong section 2B, sitting 38 points ahead of second-placed Rich River 5.

In the 16 and unders, Elmore 2 (87) and LBU 5 (79.5) are guaranteed a spot in the finals with two rounds remaining, while one of LBU 3 (67.5), Elmore 1 (61.5) and LBU 4 (60) will miss out.

The top four teams in under 13s are basically settled, with South 7, South 6, Colbinabbin 4 and Colbinabbin 3 in the leading spots, with Elmore 4 a further 12.5 points back.
