Team of the week
Some new faces in this week’s Riv XI, with individual brilliance harder to pinpoint among strong team performances.
By Zach Hubber1 Nick Hubble (Cooma)
42
After a slow start to the season, the opener put his side in a strong position early before the middle order collapsed.
2 Steve Rasmussen (Rochester United)
64
Combined for a 100-run partnership with Jesse Cuttriss with the side starting day two at 3/48, chasing 93 for victory.
3 Jesse Cuttriss (Rochester United)
48
Part of the match-winning partnership, it was Cuttriss’ highest score for the season after a run of 15, 0 and 9.
4 Alec Young (Stanhope)
52
Perhaps not the most glamorous half-century given the team was trying to bat the 80 overs instead of chasing victory, but Young’s patience proves he is the most consistent of the Lions’ batsmen.
5 Kirk Teasdale (Moama)
26 (70)
Perhaps a controversial decision, but Teasdale withstood a barrage from Echuca’s bowlers during his 98 minutes at the crease to get Moama’s run chase off to the best possible start.
6 Greg Pearse (BLU)
12-3-4-20
Took three wickets in five balls to rattle Cooma’s middle order and set BLU up for its second win of the season.
7 Adam Ward (Rochester Tigers)
15-5-5-31
Took three more wickets on day two to take his tally to five for the match. Ward is the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker in the competition.
8 Ben Docking (BLU)
15-6-3-26
The captain was economic with the ball and took the prized wickets of Nick Hubble and Michael Hill to help his side to victory.
9 Keith Chalmers (Echuca South)
10-0-3-46
Stopped the rot when he took Rasmussen’s wicket, only to bowl Hamish Hooppell straight after. Took the final three wickets before United declared.
10 Kyle Phipps (Moama)
31 not out
In for his efforts with the bat at number 10. Phipps almost single-handedly hauled his side over the line when he entered the crease at 8/94 with Moama chasing 152 for victory.
11 Jake Perry (Rochester United)
9-3-3-11
Solid figures almost contributed to United claiming an outright win against Echuca South.
