Stratton storms home in women's class
Wet N Wild towed Moama's Zoe Stratton to an emphatic victory in the open women social class on Saturday.
By Zach HubberMoama duo Peter Woolman and Zoe Stratton starred in the Wet N Wild boat which finished first in the open women social class on Saturday morning.
The team crossed the line in 41 minutes and 58 seconds, more than two minutes ahead of second-placed Toey As.
Moama skier Ellie Ralph finished third behind Alien Force in 45:00.
Stratton said it was a pretty rough race.
‘‘We had a couple of boats falling in front of us,’’ she said.
‘‘We caught the boat in front of us probably 20km into the race and had to work our way past them, then there was another two boats in front of that one.
‘‘It’s really difficult to overtake them because you have to be really careful on the corners.
‘‘If you hit the wave the wrong way you might fall in.’’
Stratton said she had practised overtaking boats before Saturday’s race.
‘‘We practice but it’s always different on race day than what you train for,’’ she said.
The team just missed out on a podium finish in the open women expert class yesterday, finishing two seconds behind Ring of Fire to finish fourth.
