Stinga blitzes expert class record
Greg Houston and Stinga have sent out an ominous warning as they broke the unlimited inboard expert record by nine seconds on Sunday.
By Geordie CowanGreg Houston and Stinga are ready to challenge the best in the business after blitzing the unlimited inboard expert event on Sunday, breaking the record by nine seconds in a time of 31:43.
With son Jack and Ben Hackett skiing behind and Kevin Boylan observing, Stinga started immediately behind superclass after winning and breaking the record of the President’s Dash on Saturday.
The team proved more than worthy of stepping up into the top class by storming through the top field, overtaking one boat and trailing in the wake of another.
‘‘It was a good run,’’ Houston said.
‘‘Unfortunately, we run in unlimited but we caught the superclass guys down the river and we were sort of in their wake for the last 10 minutes of the race.
‘‘We passed one and we come across the line with another one.
‘‘It really buggers your last part of the race, but we’ll just have to step up and come up to superclass I suppose.’’
Houston said the team could have gone quicker if the circumstances had been right but the team was still thrilled with the result.
‘‘We could have done better if we hadn’t got that traffic, but it is what it is,’’ he said.
‘‘Boys skied brilliantly, broke the record, so very very happy.
‘‘We’ve come here and achieved what we wanted to achieve.
‘‘Next year, we’ll be in superclass.’’
