A wrap-up of all the highlights of the Sunday of the 2013 Southern 80.

Stinga smoked all who came before it in a stunning performance in the unlimited inboard expert event yesterday, becoming one of four teams to set new records.

The team finished 47 seconds ahead of nearest competitor Burnin and took nine seconds off the previous record, overtaking a superclass competitor on the way.

Moama’s Steve Morley and Echuca’s Lloyd Woolman finished third in the class with Thundernuts.

Mathoura observer Stuart Horne was part of another record-setting team when Ultra Troublemaker (33:58.93) took more than 14 seconds off the previous best time, set by Kryptonite in 2008.

Ultra Troublemaker finished almost five minutes ahead of its nearest competitor.

Evinrude Ace Racing also starred in the MOC expert class yesterday to finish in a time of 38:25 — breaking a nine-year record in the process, set by Zigs Marine.

On the other hand, the record in 70mph expert had only been set last year before Echuca boat Thunder Storm, driven by Gavin Woolman, took almost 10 seconds off the time to finish in 43:39.73.

Echuca’s Jessica Pearse came runner-up, driving 99 Psycho Clowns F2 to the podium finish.

Bullet Racing narrowly won unlimited outboard expert, finishing less than a second ahead of Tuff-N-Up, while Mathoura boat T-Rubble — including Torrumbarry’s Shaun Williams, Deniliquin’s Kirstin Walker and Echuca’s Nathan Evans — was third.

Echuca boat Little Man defended its SMOC expert title from last year, with the same team members bettering their time by more than 30 seconds and coming within nine seconds of setting a new record.

Sonic Boats was second, followed by The Specimen.

Quick Decision won by almost a minute from Avenger in 8 litre expert, Seriously Gro Up proved much too good for its competitors in stock 6 litre expert.

Echuca’s Gavin and Lloyd Woolman combined to finish the Southern 80 with a win, triumphing with Thunder Storm in F2 expert with a time of 39:56.31, ahead of Team 50 and Runnin Wild.

Monopoly dispelled The Myth in 5.2 litre and 6 cylinder expert class to finish in 43:17.41.

Prime Time and Recoverys Reflection were much too good for the rest of their competitors in the open women expert, finishing more than four minutes ahead of the third-placed team.

Tania and Sarah Teelow’s Prime Time won the event in a time of 36:16.68.

Chief and Extreme Meltdown were the respective winners in 16-19 boys and girls expert classes, while Saintn matched its time from last year to reign victorious in 200hp outboard expert once again, finishing ahead of No Fear and Messy Racing.

Se7en F1 was a comfortable winner in junior boys expert, with Rush and Mathoura boat T-Rubble the place-getters, while Spinal Tap won a close race against Cyclone Raicey in junior girls expert, with just four seconds separating the two boats.

Echuca boat Nipple, driven by David Blight, won sub-junior boys expert and Korrupt, featuring Moama’s Neville and Emma Barnes, were the winners of sub-junior girls expert.

Ratsak claimed victory in the big 50mph expert field — in which less than half the 45-strong field completed legally — finishing ahead of Undecided and The Californian.
