Southern 80 entries skyrocket
The countdown is on for the start of the Southern 80 ski race.
Almost 600 entries have been received for this year’s Club Marine Southern 80, which is on next month.
A total of 599 entries have been received, with the most entries in the 60mph social, 60mph expert and unlimited inboard expert classes.
Boats and teams are coming from 416 towns across Victoria, NSW, Queensland and South Australia to compete in the world’s biggest ski race event.
Kicking off the weekend is the breakfast with the stars, from 7am to 9am, at the Kerrabee Soundshell, which is a chance to see the stars of water ski racing, along with a huge range of boats.
People will have the chance to meet some of the stars and can have their photo taken, along with some signed posters.
On the Saturday morning is the static display in Hare St, Echuca, where a selection of boats will be on display for the public to see.
The social classes will be taking off from Torrumbarry on the Saturday morning, finishing at Victoria Park boatramp.
At the finish line over the weekend, people can enjoy a range of activities including the Aspen Parks’ playground, the Club Jeep corporate area, freestyle moto cross display and trade sites.
Saturday afternoon, racing kicks off with the veterans, tadpoles (under 10s) and senior social, from Five Mile boatramp.
The Bakers’ Blitz and President’s Dash is at 3.30pm from Five Mile. The races determine start times for Sunday.
Sunday’s racing starts with the expert classes at Torrumbarry Weir at 8.30am, racing the 124 bends through the river to the finish line at Victoria Park.
