Elmore roller hockey player Caleb Smith has been selected to represent Australia in the Junior Olympics and International Youth Cup in Anaheim, US, in July.
Last year, Smith was chosen to play for the under 12s Australian roller hockey team in the North American Roller Hockey Championship, which he will attend next month in Hawaii.
Smith said following his trip to Hawaii he would train hard to compete in the two games.
He plays in the forward line, but switches positions, playing all positions, except for goalie, for Bendigo Blaze.
Smith played for Victoria in September with the side claiming gold at the National Hockey Tournament.
He was awarded a medal for the highest assist for passing the puck to the goal scorer the most times.
Australian under 12 team manager Jason Moore said Smith was a strong player at the national games in Adelaide and wanted him to compete in the Junior Olympics and International Youth Cup in Anaheim.
Smith said he was surprised by the phone call as the reserves had been selected months ago, but said he felt ‘‘pretty good’’ about it.
