Echuca observer Kris Pogorelec felt happy with how his team, Liquid Ice, performed in the unlimited outboard social class on Saturday morning.

The Finley-based boat came 11th from 26 competitors and Pogorelec said the boat was faster than last year’s Southern 80.

‘‘The boat’s a few years old now. It’s just been bought by my family and they’re just revamping it a little bit,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s our first run in the Southern 80 with the new look.

‘‘It’s a 21-foot boat instead of 19-foot and it’s got two engines on the back instead of one.’’

But Pogorelec said the extra length had no advantage on the river.

‘‘Lengthwise it doesn’t really matter on the river up here because it’s so windy, it’s more for the rough water,’’ he said.

‘‘And two engines definitely helps over one, so you can power out of the corners much quicker.’’

Liquid Ice finished eighth in the unlimited outboard expert class, while Pogorelec observed On Ice to 12th in the 60mph expert class on Sunday.
