League keen to impress at Country Week
Goulburn Murray Cricket will have a point to prove next week when it takes part in Melbourne Country Week.
By Zach HubberGoulburn Murray Cricket will travel to Melbourne with a strong squad when it starts its Melbourne Country Week campaign on Monday.
It is Goulburn Murray’s first showing in the competition since the merger of the Campaspe and Kyabram District cricket associations last year.
The KDCA went winless playing in division two last year, meaning Goulburn Murray will compete in division three.
Coach Laurie Casey, who coached KDCA for about 10 years, said he was impressed with the squad’s attitude and enthusiasm at training on Wednesday night.
‘‘We’ll be making sure we do very well,’’ he said.
‘‘Every game we compete in we’ll be competing to win, so we give ourselves the best chance of playing division two next year.’’
Four players will compete on Monday and Tuesday before substituting for five players, who will compete on Wednesday and Thursday due to work commitments and availability.
Casey said it was natural that players could not compete for the whole week.
The team will start its campaign against Colac at Balwyn on Monday.
