Fire Brigade dominated Tongala in a Goulburn Murray Cricket Twenty20 match on Thursday night.

Winning the toss and batting, Fire Brigade star Paul Newman smacked an unbeaten 71, which included 10 fours and a six.

Openers Trevor Watts (31) and Nick Breslin (27) played supporting roles as Fire Brigade finished with 4/158 from its 20 overs.

Jarrod Chapman took control of the match for Fire Brigade, claiming 5/10 from 3.4 overs as Tongala could only muster 95 all out from 19.4 overs.

Tongala’s Jordan Souter was the only batsman to find the boundary rope, with three fours in his knock of 23.

■Rochester United tamed two of the competition’s best batsmen to defeat Rochester Tigers.

United opener Dylan Cuttriss claimed the scalps of Adam Ward and Tim Maxfield without scoring, to have the Tigers 2/0 in the first over.

Brad Major responded with 65 for the Tigers who finished 9/142 at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, most of United’s batsmen chipped in to help their side pass the Tigers’ total six wickets down in the final over.

■Moama smashed Bunnaloo at Moama.

Winning the toss, Moama made 6/177 on the back of useful knocks from Tyler Jones (41) and Ralph Siede (45). Brodie Unwin was the best of the Bunnaloo bowlers, claiming 3/18 from his four overs.

Spearhead James Scambler ripped through Bunnaloo’s top order, claiming 2/14 from four overs. Michael Buckley and Darren Wright tried to lift the visitors, but the Magpies bowled out Bunnaloo for 126 in the final over.

■Echuca’s batsmen took control of the match against Echuca South.

Winning the toss and bowling first, Echuca South was punished in the opening overs as Adam Jones blasted two sixes in the first three overs before falling to Keith Chalmers.

Curtis Townrow and Taylor Beard combined for a 60-run second stand. Townrow was explosive, peeling off 46 in 32 balls, while Beard was more patient, making 46 from 50 balls, falling in the final over as Echuca made 4/171 after 20 overs.

Echuca’s bowlers, led by three-wicket hauls from Rob Hogan and Brandan Dixon, ensured South would fall short, finishing with 102 from 17 overs.
