Emma up to the challenge
Young Emma Barnes was not daunted when she competed against older female skiers on the weekend.
By Zach HubberMoama resident Emma Barnes continued her solid form to win the sub-junior girls class behind Korrupt alongside Brooke Hammond on Sunday morning in 44 minutes and 56 seconds, more than three minutes ahead of runner-up Critta.
Barnes also registered a second place behind Thunder Storm in the sub-junior social class on Saturday afternoon in 9:43.
The performances complemented Barnes’ under 13s victory at the Australian Speed and Marathon Ski Racing Championships last month.
Emma said the team hit a hurdle when it caught up to another boat in its second-place finish on Saturday.
‘‘We caught a boat, but we didn’t pass it,’’ she said.
‘‘There was never enough room to make a move so we had to just stay behind it.’’
Emma also competed in the open women expert behind Sonic Racing in place of Nicole Dixon to finish ninth.
Emma said she was not daunted by racing against the women, or by the 80km from Torrumbarry, but was excited by the challenge.
