Echuca bowlers Tex Harrison and Ken Jones were part of the triumphant Victorian side which won the Jack Hamilton VC trophy at the National RSL Lawn Bowls Carnival in Melbourne earlier this month.

The team, which was chaired by Moama resident and RSL life member John Munro, finished ahead of NSW overall to win the silverware at Glen Waverley Bowls Club.

Munro also served as the national president of the RSL bowls council for the second time, his first being in 2006 when Victoria last won the trophy.

Victoria won five of its six games at the carnival, losing to NSW in the fourth Test.

But a slip up by the NSW team against Western Australia in the second Test aided Victoria’s chances.

The win broke a three-year winning streak by NSW and was the 12th time Victoria had claimed the title since the competition’s inception in 1961.

Munro said this was the last year he would serve, saying he liked the idea of going out on a high.
