Cyclists win silver
Two Echuca-Moama Cycling Club cyclists won silver at the Victorian Club Team Track Championships on Sunday.
Cyclists Edie Haley and Jessie Thomson won a silver medal at the Victorian Club Team Track Championships at Darebin on Sunday.
The pair were two of 11 juniors riders from Echuca-Moama Cycling Club who competed at Darebin International Sports Centre.
In all age groups the club qualified for a state final and rode for medal contention, bringing home three top four positions, including the silver medal.
The differences between a gold medal and fourth position came down to half a second in the boys’ under 13 team pursuit.
Echuca-Moama Cycling Club president Ezio D’Alberto said the cyclists performed well considering most had never ridden on a wooden track or Darebin’s 13-degree banks, and the riders often stepped up one or two age categories so that a team could be fielded.
‘‘To achieve such a fantastic result was a credit to the kids, parents and Andrew Clapham who co-ordinated the Echuca riders,’’ he said.
