Cricket board to decide B grade dispute

The B grade preliminary finals remain undecided after Echuca appealed the 'draw' result of its semi-final against Fire Brigade.

By Geordie Cowan

The Goulburn Murray Cricket board will meet for the second time in a week to discuss another incident on the weekend.

The B grade semi-final between Fire Brigade and Echuca resulted in a draw after sprinklers which inadvertently came on Sunday morning dampened the pitch at Cooma Recreation Reserve and affected the match conditions.

‘‘This made the conditions vastly different for one team team than the other,’’ GMC vice-president Colin Price said.

‘‘What we’ve got to ascertain is what we can do within the rules to make that a fair outcome.’’

The board said it had received an appeal from Echuca Cricket Club regarding the result of the match and it would hold a meeting to determine the outcome.

Fire Brigade was bowled out for 170 on Saturday, while Echuca did not start play until 3.15pm Sunday, finishing at 9/130 after 53 overs.

A draw would see the higher-placed team go through, which is the Flames.

Echuca South is one team through to the B grade preliminary finals.
