Big week of golf on the fairways of Rich River
The Hahn Pro-Am and the Doug Fraser memorial long drive competition kick off a big week of golf at Rich River.
Rich River Golf Club Resort has a big week of golf coming up with its annual pro-am and the 25th trainee tournament.
Today, the Hahn Pro-Am, where amateur golfers are paired to play with the trainee professionals, will be held, as well as the Doug Fraser memorial long drive competition, with professional and amateur prizes.
The long drive competition, in its fourth year, is to commemorate the life of Doug Fraser, who was a fantastic ambassador to the club and the trainee tournament.
Troy Murphy has won the past two events and spectators are welcome to watch the competition.
The Coca-Cola Trainee Classic runs from tomorrow to Friday and is one of only two national trainee events in Australia.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to watch the free event, which this year has attracted 141 trainees from every state in Australia.
This is the 25th year the event has been running.
Quinton Howe won last year’s event by three shots with a score of 13 under par, taking home $5530, while former Rich River member Jack Wilson was runner-up last year and will try to reclaim the title after winning it in 2011.
Fun fact: The men’s course record for the east course is 63, set by Nick Teague in 2005 during this tournament.
