Battle at the top for tennis sides
The battle for top four places in the Campaspe Tennis Association will come down to final round tomorrow.
By Geordie CowanIt is all left to play for in the last round of Campaspe Tennis Association competition tomorrow with the final ladder positions still undecided for the top four teams in section one.
Just four points separates ladder-leader Rich River from fourth-placed Rochester 2.
Rich River (146) suffered a surprise eight-game loss to Rochester 1 last week, but should be confident of retaining top spot if it plays to its potential against Echuca Lawn tomorrow.
However, it must do so without number one player Darren Short, who will miss with an elbow injury.
Second-placed Lockington-Bamawm United (145) has the best chance to snatch top spot, with the team hosting bottom-placed Echuca South.
The other match sees the two Rochester teams playing each other and, if neither can overhaul one of the teams above it, will play each other again in the elimination semi-final next week.
■
Just one point separates the two sides going into tomorrow’s final round, but Village has the bye so Lawn only needs seven points to ensure second spot.
However, it will not be an easy task against fifth-placed Echuca South 4, which will be chasing the five points it needs to get into the finals ahead of Echuca South 3.
■
■
Both teams will be favoured to win their matches, against seventh-placed Colbinabbin 2 and cellar dweller Rochester 6 respectively.
■
South 7 is a comfortable leader at the top and should play clubmates Echuca South 6 in the semi-final next week, while Colbinabbin 4 and Colbinabbin 3 are expected to fill the third and fourth spots on the ladder.
