A mixed under 17 Echuca-Moama hockey side will play in a grand final today.
The team will play Senjuns in the Central Victorian Hockey Association grand final in their first year of the competition after the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association under 17 competition did not run due to lack of numbers.
Team coach Michael Gulson said he expected a pretty good game after winning their past two encounters against Senjuns 5-4 and 4-3.
‘‘We go into the grand final reasonably positive,’’ he said.
‘‘We have got a good mix of girls and boys and we have four girls that are new and I have been very impressed with the way they have come along.
‘‘The whole team has performed extremely well as a team.’’
Gulson said the most pleasing aspect of the team’s development has been the way all players, regardless of ability, have improved and developed.
‘‘As a coach, to see the kids look up and hit a player in position, they have the confidence to use that player no matter who it is,’’ he said.
‘‘I am rapt on that side of things.
‘‘They have developed as a team and brought all the weaker players along.
‘‘It is a great team effort to get to where they are.’’
The match will be played at Bendigo Hockey Centre in Ironbark, Bendigo, at 6pm today.
