No shortage of firies in Echuca

More than 20 brigades converged on the town for a fire brigade competition on the weekend.

The annual Greater Midlands Fire Brigades Competition Association Central Area competition was held over two days, with juniors competing Saturday and seniors on Sunday at Vic Park.

Forty-five junior teams took part in 18 events in two classes, 11 to 14 years and 14 to 17 years, while about 21 senior brigade teams competed in 15 events.

The Echuca Fire Brigade running side had a fairly successful time in the seniors competition, finishing third overall behind Kangaroo Flat and Wendouree.

Echuca will host a senior brigades twilight competition on March 3, before heading to Mooroopna the following weekend for the annual state championships.

Meanwhile, the junior state championships will be held this weekend at Horsham.

Echuca's Rick Wilcock, Nathan Jobling and Matt Wilson compete in the Hose and reel 8s competition.
