Tooma cowboy Brad Pierce showed his dominance over the beasts at Deniliquin’s annual rodeo on Saturday, competing and winning in both the bucking bull and saddle bronc sections. His results saw him named best all-round cowboy.
Brad Pierce was named the all-round cowboy and winner of the saddle bronc and open bull ride at the Deniliquin Rodeo on Saturday night.
The Tooma, NSW resident impressed judges Bruce O’Dell and Steve Atkins at ‘Australia’s Biggest Little Rodeo’ at the racecourse.
About 3000 spectators looked on in awe as they watched the talented rider.
Pierce has won world rookie all-round and bull riding titles in North America and has the Australian Professional Rodeo Association’s (APRA) No.1 ranking.
As well as being in the lead of the APRA all-round category, the gun rider also heads the saddle bronc and bull ride rankings.
Since the age of 17 Pierce has been riding in the open section and spent five years riding in America on the pro circuit after securing a scholarship with West Texas College.
The 26 year-old comes from a long line of talented riders — his father and grandfather both made it big on the rodeo circuit.
His father, Jim, won the Australian saddle bronc riding title in 1989 and his grandfather was a champion cowboy in the 1940s.

A highly anticipated event of the night was the Pub/Club steer ride challenge trophy.
Sponsored by local licensed premises and with local riders competing, the stakes were high.
This year’s entrants were the Central Hotel, Pretty Pine Hotel, Sportsman’s Arms Hotel, Railway Hotel, Blighty Hotel, Coach House Hotel, While Lion Hotel and the Globe Hotel.
Taking the trophy this year was the White Lion with a score of 73 from rider Luke Rossetta.
Rosetta lives at Mayrung and attends Yanco College during school term.
Rodeo Committee member Alan Calderwood said assistance from the Deniliquin Aero Club, Little Athletics, Deniliquin Show Society members and the Tentpeggers enabled a thrilling night of entertainment without any major injuries.
Although, he said several riders and the unsaddling chute gate keeper did sustain superficial muscle injuries courtesy of Gary McPhee’s bucking stock.
