Lumbar to race at Moama
Deni sprint car racer is hoping to the locals will get behind him for his race at Heartland tomorrow.
Sprint car racer Eddie Lumbar will take to the track tomorrow night in round eight of the SRA Victoria 2012/13 season.
Locals are encouraged to get along and support the Deniliquin driver and his pit crew at Moama’s Heartland Raceway, located on the Cobb Hwy.
‘‘We’re expecting to go pretty good. We’ve got a setting that we think will go alright on the Moama track,’’ Lumbar said.
‘‘The season so far hasn’t been too bad really. We’ve been on the money sometimes and haven’t really banged it up too much.’’
Lumbar, who usually races in the 410 Open Sprint Car class, said he had a ‘‘great race’’ in the 360 Sprint Car series at Mt Gambier last weekend.
‘‘The 360 is just a smaller model, it’s only about 650 horsepower,’’ he said.
‘‘We ran third for most of the night until we hit a massive pot-hole and flipped. There’s really not much you can do when that happens and we ended up finishing 13th.’’
Lumbar refers to Moama’s Heartland arena as his ‘‘home track’’.
His pit crew for tomorrow night will consist of his brother Frank, Adrian Ferguson and Dennis Jensen.
They will be on hand as their driver races around the track at an average speed of just over 150km/h.
‘‘We’re hoping to see a few locals over there (tomorrow night), it’s only 40 minutes down the road,’’ Lumbar said.
‘‘With the Southern 80 on this weekend we’re expecting a big crowd. There’ll be plenty of people there enjoying the dust.’’
Lumbar’s racing team is sponsored by Edward River Tyre Centre, Graham Thomson Motors, Steel Pipes, Austbrokers Canberra and Ferguson Diesel as well as a number of local businesses.
