Jefferies to coach fourths
The Deni Rams fourths will start training next week under new coach Andrew Jefferies.
The Deniliquin Rams fourths will start training on Tuesday, February 5.
Wayne Pitts, who coached the under-14s for two seasons, has stood aside, paving the way for first year coach Andrew Jefferies.
‘‘The more numbers the better,’’Jefferies said.
‘‘We’ve got eight or nine going up to the thirds and I already know of about six or seven young kids from Auskick who are going to start with us.
‘‘Training won’t be too hard and we’ll be mixing it up a bit by going for a run down to the river when it’s hot.’’
Jefferies said the sessions, which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, will only last about an hour and a half starting at 5pm.
A new mentoring program with the club’s senior side and the under-14s will be implemented this season.
‘‘It will just give kids a bit of one-on-one time to work on their skills with the senior guys,’’ Jefferies said.
‘‘Another thing we are hoping they’ll get out of it is a bit more interest in the senior games. We want them to get to know the older guys, know their names and stay around and watch them play.’’
All new players are welcome to train with the Rams fourths.
