Deniliquin Bowling Club’s division one ladies returned home from Lockington winners by a mere one shot last week.
All rinks struggled for shots and the ‘Locky’ girls were vying for their second win of the season.
Final scores were Deni 60 def. Lockington 59.
Brenda Leetham, Joy Mann, Joy McArthur and Fay Munnerley won by seven shots, 24-17, while a two-shot win, 16-14, was awarded to Joyce Hay, Robyn Little, Dawn McCulloch and Linda Freeman.
Despite scoring eight shots over the last three ends, the rink of Loris Yates, Aileen Kennedy, Vicki O’Keefe and Jill Grimshaw were not able to make it a clean-sweep for Deni, going down by eight, 20-18.
Division two were on the road against Mathoura and didn’t fare as well. The home side defeated the locals by 33 shots, 64-97.
Gwen Mitchell, Noel Murray, Louise Begg and Betty McCarthy had a one-shot loss, 23-24, while Lorna Breen, Joan Gamble, Caryn Hillier and Maureen King lost by 11, 19-30.
The rink of Jean Sartoria, Helen Anderson, Barb Berry and Bev Renwick went down by 23 shots, 21-44.
Next Friday is the last round of the home and away matches. Both divisions are home to Rich River.
With the business end of the season looming, both sides are currently in the top four and would like to consolidate their finals bid with strong wins.

Division two thirds are on morning team duty and division one thirds on afternoon tea.

On Wednesday, Leetham and Smith defeated Ky Valley View to go into the following day’s semi-final.
In the morning they knocked off top City of Echuca bowlers, Veronica Kelly and Melisa Larcombe, by just one shot.
The grand final was held that afternoon, in which Leetham and Smith defeated Marie Davie and Rhonda Gallagher from Lockington.
The local ladies now take on the Bendigo winners at Bendigo Bowls Club on Feb 17.
From there the winners go on to Victorian finals.
