Tongala and the Rams clash in a Murray League blockbuster at Tocumwal tomorrow
Not much has separated Deniliquin and Tongala all season, and Rams A grade coach Vicki Carmichael is tipping tomorrow’s preliminary final match to be another nail-biter.
The match will be played at Tocumwal from 1.30pm, with the winner getting a crack at minor premier Mulwala in next week’s season decider.
‘‘(The record) is a pretty even one against Tonny,’’ Carmichael said.
‘‘We have won one each this season and neither win has been convincing.
‘‘I’d say tomorrow is going to be another tough and physical game.’’
The first time these two played, Deni won 46-40 but it was Tongala who ended the Rams’ 13-match winning streak with a 49-48 result in round 18.
The Rams are hoping star defender Min Wyatt (hand) overcomes injury in time for the do-or-die clash.
Carmichael said Wyatt’s selection in the team would come down to how well she got through training last night.
If Deniliquin is to be a chance of knocking off the Blues, they will have to contain gun goal attack Abby Pettifer who was a major player in the Rams’ round 18 loss.
‘‘Abby is one of their key players along with Alicia (White) in defence,’’ Carmichael said.
‘‘Their mid-court is very solid too.
‘‘Last time we played them, Abby probably had the better of our defenders.
‘‘But our defensive set-up was a little bit different that time, and if Min can ride through the game she won’t let that happen again.’’
The Rams under-12s will also be in action at Tocumwal tomorrow.
They play Echuca United from 9am.
Both teams scored a win against each other during the home-and-away season, setting up what should be another close encounter.
In last week’s second semi final, the Rams lost 20-13 to Moama, while the Eagles beat Cobram 31-24 in their semi final.
