Barooga Bowls

February 18 - pennant

Not a great day as far as wins go for Barooga on Saturday, but both of the top teams achieved what was needed.

The Ones went to Cobram needing at least four points to retain second place, and the rinks skipped by Gerald Rothe and Chris Philpot both had six shot wins to ensure this. However, with the other rinks going down, a 16 shot loss was the end result.

The semi final will be a replay next week at Finley.

Division 2/2 were at home to Strathy, who needed a win to stay in the four. After an absorbing battle, the Maroons recorded a 20 shot win, with three rinks up, to earn them 12 points, and wrap up second spot.

Once again, Len Magee, (s) Kevin Henderson, Barry Johnson and Travis Gow took the Barooga Pub stubbies with a 40-13 win.

Wunghnu next week at Tocumwal, let’s go boys !

Division 2 Golds drove to Wunghnu to tackle the top team, but were unable to win a rink and went down. Ieva Saunders, Dawn Brown, Geoff Backhouse and Fred Pinnuck fared the best, losing 19-23.

The Division 4 team travelled to Tallygaroopna, also up against the top team. In a result similar to the Golds, they went down in all three rinks. Jill Toohey (s) Don Casey, Matt Hogan and Tony Hartshorne kept their margin to 15 shots down

The selectors would sincerely like to thank all of the Ladies who filled in for Saturday Pennant. Your support has been invaluable.

Cobram bowls

Ladies

What a wonderful result : Cobram Division 1 Ladies Grand Final was won last Friday in convincing fashion. Two rinks were very one-sided : Marj McDonald, Margaret Cooper, Alex Smith & Chris Dunne defeated Elaine Rothe 33-14 : Val Quinane, Marj Carlisle, Barb Turner & Glenys Walker def Kaye Beare 30-13 : and Caroline Reilly def Carol Wigg 30-28.

The Reilly team had an extremely tight game; it was neck’n’neck all day.

At the last change Carol Wigg was leading by 2 shots, but the Cobram team of Caroline Reilly (s), Kerry Baldacchino, Jeanette Liersch & Joy Mynard, prevailed by scoring 4 shots on the final end, to give the Cobram Ladies a great win 93 – 55. Well done girls!
