Junior BDCA finals in progress

Action in the BDCA's junior competition is starting to heat up.

Junior finals are underway in the Benalla and District Cricket Association.

The under-5 Rankin Shield semi-finals are halfway through, with the second day to be played today (Wednesday).

St Joseph’s is playing Violet Town and is in the box seat after scoring 140.

Simon Briggs top-scored for Joey’s with 31 retired, with handy contributions put in by Casey Harrison (19) and Michael Skilbeck (20).

The other game is evenly poised with Euroa having scored 127 against Mansfield Red.

Jack McKernan top-scored with 33 retired, next best were Nick Dowell (26) and Jet Trotter (19).

The grand final for the Rankin Shield will be played at the Benalla Gardens Oval this Sunday starting at 1pm, 40 overs per side.

At the completion of the game the Rankin Shield will be presented to the winning team and individual award winners will be presented, including the Ray Croxford Cricketer of the Year.

The Under-17 Briggs Shield semi-finals get underway this Saturday morning.

Top team Benalla will play Warrenbayne at the Gardens Oval and St Joseph’s plays Euroa at Memorial Oval in Euroa.

They will play over the next two Saturday mornings, with the grand final to take place on Monday, March 12, (Labour Day).
