First test day of the year at Winton
V8 Supercar teams flocked to Winton Motor Raceway this week for the first test day of 2012.
Winton Raceway welcomed a number of V8 Supercar teams Monday for their first test day for this year.
The Benalla circuit is the nominated test track for all the Victorian V8 Supercar teams and most teams took the opportunity to complete laps of the circuit in preparation for the opening round of the V8 Supercar Championship, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, March 1 to 4.
Although it rained for much of the day, the teams appreciated the opportunity to accumulate some valuable laps in the wet conditions.
Teams in attendance included the Holden Racing Team (Garth Tander, James Courtney and Russell Ingall), Kelly Racing (Rick Kelly, Todd Kelly, Greg Murphy and Karl Reindler), Brad Jones Racing (Jason Bright, Fabian Coulthard and David Wall), Tony D’Alberto Racing (Tony D’Alberto) and Garry Rogers Motorsport (Michael Caruso and Alexandre Premat).
Alexandre Premat has replaced Lee Holdsworth at Garry Rogers Motorsport for this year and yesterday the French driver had his first opportunity to drive a V8 Supercar in the wet.
The former DTM driver made a number of practice starts at the end of pit lane, as he tried to develop the correct technique for launching a V8 Supercar on a slippery surface.
The V8 Supercar Series will hold races at Winton from August 24 to 26.
