Benalla swimmers perform well at home meet

Benalla Swimming Club hosted a successful Long Course Sprints meet with members posting plenty of PB's.

Benalla Swim Club recently hosted a Long Course Sprints event at the Benalla Aquatic Centre outdoor pool, with around 100 swimmers from the district and beyond converging on Benalla to compete.

Benalla Swim Club members performed well, some racing for the first time, while most achieved personal best times and some members placed in one or more of their events.

A team of 23 Benalla swimmers competed in the meet.

Great performances for swimmers racing long course for the first time included:

Victoria Stock set PBs in 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, and gained third place in the 50m backstroke.

Nicole Barrow set PBs in 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke.

Isobelle Major set PBs in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

Caitlin Sinclair set PBs in 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.

Cassidy Mailer set a PB and achieved second in 50m freestyle.

Maddison Mailer set a PB and achieved first in 50m freestyle.

Tegan Murphy set a PB and achieved third in 50m freestyle.

Xavier Wittingslow set a PB in 50m freestyle.

Eve Way set PBs and achieved first place in 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, and second place in 50m backstroke.

Lauren Murphy swam close to her personal best time for 50m freestyle.

Indiana Wittingslow set a personal best time and achieved second place in 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.

Grace Way set PBs in 50m breaststroke and achieved second place in 50m freestyle.

Other great performances by Benalla swimmers included:

Ally Cooper achieved a third place for 50m breaststroke.

Lucy Desailly achieved second place in 50m butterfly, third place in 50m freestyle, and set a PB in 50m backstroke.

Kiera Murphy achieved PBs and first place in 50m backstroke, second place for 50m butterfly and a PB in 50m freestyle.

Grace Wittingslow swam well, close to her personal best times.

Isaiah Wittingslow achieved a PB in 50m butterfly.

Ryan Waddell achieved first place in 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, and third place and a PB in 50m backstroke.

Lachlan Waddell achieved PBs in some of his races and first place in 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle and second place in 50m backstroke.

Scarlett King achieved a third place for 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.

Harry Botta achieved first place and PBs for 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke and third place in 50m freestyle.

Hannah Botta achieved first place in 50m breaststroke.

Clare Kelly achieved PBs and first place in 50m freestyle and second place in 50m breaststroke.

Congratulations to swimmers in the Benalla relay teams — the 14/under team won their event, the 10/under team came second, and the open team finished first.

Also well done to parents and uncles that had a go in the family relay event.

Squad training will resume this week, and with a busy competition schedule in February and March. All members are encouraged to get back in the water and train hard.
