Soccer stars wow Phoenix
Kyabram Phoenix Football Club recently held its registration day for the forthcoming 2013 season.
Kyabram Phoenix Football Club recently held its registration day for the forthcoming 2013 season.
All the players attending had the opportunity to meet and play alongside Australian women’s international and Melbourne Victory players Steph Catley and Ashley Brown in short games played in an inflatable soccer pitch.
The Melbourne Victory women’s team recently reached its first W-League grand final where it narrowly lost out to Sydney FC with Catley impressing in a wide midfield role.
New Phoenix club president Simon Fiske said it was a great experience for the players to meet and learn from two highly talented and successful young players like Catley and Brown.
‘‘Steph and Ashley were very generous with their time and provided great role models for our own young players to learn from,’’ Fiske said.
Kyabram Phoenix will again be playing in the Goulburn North East Football Association this season with teams entered in both junior and senior age groups.
Last season the Phoenix under-16 girls team secured back-to-back premierships while the women’s team became the club’s first senior team to reach the finals where it lost out in a close semi-final.
