Rusty is back with Bombers

Kyabram Football Club’s senior games record holder Tony McDonell has returned to Bomberland.

Kyabram Football Club’s senior games record holder Tony McDonell has returned to Bomberland.

The man affectionately known as ‘‘Rusty’’, who played 334 games with the Bombers and captained the team’s last premiership side in 1996, is Kyabram thirds’ coach Paul Newman’s right-hand man this season.

He is also a premiership coach at Lancaster, leading the club to the 2001 flag.

McDonell coached the Kyabram thirds in 2005 and was team manager of the thirds in 2011.

Newman said he was pleased to get someone with Rusty’s experience to be by his side as the young Bombers attempted to go one better than last season when they finished runners-up.

McDonell stepped down as non-playing coach of Kyabram League club Lancaster last season.
