Petite Monique Pell was a big winner, twice, at the Shepparton Harness Racing Club’s Cup meeting last Saturday night.
The 13-year-old Kyabram girl partnered her pony trotter Shanique Shiraz to two runaway wins on the night.
Shanique Shiraz, having just her third trip to the races, took her heat with a runaway all-the-way win off a front-mark handicap.
She then repeated the dose in the final of the Rob Auber Shepparton Pony Trot Cup after another confident Monique drive.
Monique has enjoyed considerable success on the pony trotters circuit since taking up the sport five years ago.
She also enjoyed prolific success with Shanique Shiraz’s dam, Shanusti Fred, or ‘Fred’ as she was known, who is now 17 years of age and retired.
Will Monique follow other reinswomen such as Kerryn Manning, Jodie Quinlan, Rebecca Bartley and Ellen Tormey into the sport of harness racing in future years?
‘‘I haven’t made up my mind about that yet,’’ was her honest reply.
