Kyabram athlete Emily Lawson is continuing her impressive progress.

Three medals and world aims

Kyabram athlete Emily Lawson has returned with three medals after competing at the 2013 All Schools Athletics Championships.

Emily, 17, finished third in the girls individual Under-18 400m and third in 200m, achieving personal best times in both events at the championships held over three days in in Townsville, Queensland.

She also won a silver medal by running the 400m leg in a team event known as a Swedish Relay in which athletes run legs of 100m, 300m, 200and 400m.

Emily previously competed in the All Schools Championships in 2011 and 2012 when she won one gold and one bronze medal in relay events.

Her aim now is to qualify to run at next year’s World Junior Championships.

To do this she will need to take 0.38 seconds off her best 200m time or 1.68 seconds off her 400m time.

‘‘The 200m time doesn’t seem like too much to achieve but fine tuning that last bit is really hard,’’ she said.

Emily has three months to achieve the qualifying time and with Victorian athletes normally peaking in Feb or March, due to the season and weather, it’s certainly a possibility.
