Kyabram Bowls Club celebrates centenary milestone.
Kyabram Bowls Club staged a fitting acknowledgement for serving the district’s community for a century with a memorable day on Sunday.
More than 120 people attended functions at the Kyabram Bowls Club and a dinner at the Kyabram Club to honour the milestone, which club president Chris Preddy started working towards 18 months ago when he began researching material and writing a book on the club’s steep history.
Among the dignitaries who attended the celebrations were Bowls Victoria president and former politician Rosemary Varty, president and secretary of the GV Bowls District Maurie Rowlands and Joy O’Donnell, respectively, regional representative for Bowls Victoria, Anne Feldtmann, and Campaspe Shire Mayor Ian Maddison.
Life members Keith Coombs and Dot Young performed the duties at the clubhouse to mark the centenary.
Keith unveiled a plaque to commemorate the club’s 100-year milestone, while Dot unveiled the club’s new flag.
Keith and Reg Simpson, in their 90s, were the oldest club members among many of the club’s former officials to attend the reunion, while Josie Bohn made one of longest journeys from Forster in Gippsland to be there.
Club president Chris Preddy said the day had gone off particularly well.
‘‘You always worry about how something like this will go and it went off really well and everyone seemed very happy,’’ Preddy said.
‘‘We finished with a lovely meal at the Kyabram Club while watching slides of photos taken over the years, which was a fitting way to end the celebrations.’’
A book on the 100 years of Kyabram Bowls Club is on sale at Kyabram Newsagency. It costs $20.
