Rushworth Golf Club has celebrated its centenary.
Rushworth Golf Club celebrated its centenary with a weekend of golf and a special centenary dinner at Rushworth Shire Hall on Saturday, August 10.
More than 90 past and present players and club supporters attended the dinner, which included some light entertainment with cameos of events and humourous memories from the club’s history.
Golf Victoria president John Hobday attended the dinner and presented a commemorative centenary plaque to Rushworth Golf Club president Bill Barlow.
Goulburn Valley District Golf Association president Peter Fraser spoke about some of the characters the club has had during its 100 years and about its long-term participation in association events.
Goulburn Valley Ladies Golf Association president Lois Pope noted the importance of the milestone in the club’s history and spoke about the many hours volunteers dedicated during the 100 years to keep the club going.
Club secretary Tim Webb put together a booklet on the history of Rushworth Golf Club, containing many interesting anecdotes and photos, that was launched on the night.
The weekend’s events on the fairways began with the Alan Curnick Memorial mens and ladies 18-hole open 4BBB stableford, which was played in wet conditions on the Friday.
On the Sunday, the club staged a 27-hole open championship and a nine-hole ladies event.
