Bronze medal for Carlie in National championships

Kyabram athletic talent Carlie Whitford stars at national youth titles.

Sixteen-year-old Kyabram athletic talent Carlie Whitford claimed a bronze medal in the under-18 400m hurdles at the Australian Youth Track and Field Championships in Perth last week.

The multi-talented young athlete, who contested four events at the titles against the country’s best in her age group, also had two top-five finishes in another two events.

She finished fifth in 200m sprint and was a member of the 4x100m Victorian side, which also finished fifth.

Carlie also contested the 100m hurdles, finishing ninth.

Carlie, a Year 11 student at the Kyabram P-12 College, is now keen to contest events at the Oceania Championships in Tahiti in June. She has submitted her name for selection in the Australian team.

Carlie also excelled in her first heptathlon in the national titles in Adelaide in February.

Competing in the girls under-18 heptathlon, she put in an outstanding performance to finish fourth.

The heptathlon is a multi-athletic event which comprises long and high jump, javelin, shot put, 100m hurdles and 200m and 800m disciplines.
