Junior Fire Brigade wins grand aggregate trophy

Benalla Junior Fire Brigade has won the grand aggregate trophy at the Urban Junior State Championships in Warrnambool.

By Monique Freer

Benalla Junior Fire Brigade members travelled to Warrnambool for the VFBV 40th Urban Junior State Championships on the weekend of February 22 and 23.

The under-17 team won the aggregate and the under-14A team came fifth in their aggregate.

Benalla A won the grand aggregate overall.

The last time Benalla juniors achieved that result was in 1983.

Full results will be published in next week’s Ensign.

Firefighter Bill Armstrong also made history at the weekend by attending his 40th Junior State Championships in an official role as a judge.

Since the championships began in 1973, Bill has not missed one, either as coach or on the track as a judge.

The Benalla Fire Brigade wish to thank the Benalla businesses, volunteer associations and the brigade for their support and encouragement, along with the support team that helped at training and at demonstrations.

Team members were:

Under-17: Jessie Beaton (captain), Ryan Nedeljkovic, Cameron Green, Abbey Kaine and Mitchell Beaton.

Under-14A: Lachlan Green, Sarah Green, Darcy Glynn and James McConnell.

Under-14B: Sharnee Chinook, Emmerson Bailey, Jake Chiver-Armstrong, Hayden Norman and Sarah Kubeil.

Coaches: Elspeth Gawley, Les Pallpratt, Brett Green and Chris Gawley.
