The Benalla Lawn Tennis pre-Christmas Wednesday night competition will come to an exciting conclusion tonight with section winners yet to be determined.
In Section A Amcal and Sportspower are equal on 14 points ahead of third-placed Crinkle Cuts and Grange on 12, while in Section B the two undefeated sides Mixed Grill and Jaybees will go head to head to determine the Section B Champions.
Due to one round being washed out, the final round — which would normally be the first-placed and second-placed teams facing off for the title — has been cancelled and placing will be determined by position on the ladder following completion of round-robin games tonight.
In Section A, only Amcal and Sportspower are capable of winning the title, with Crinkle Cuts and Grange in contention for second place.
Amcal, represented by Lisa Marta, Fraser Patterson, Janine Rofe and Alex Rofe, must only win its last game against Crinkle Cuts to take the title.
However, a loss could mean that second-placed Sportspower (Graham Parker, Bev Gill, Kerrie Facey and Zac Parker) jump ahead to take the title.
In Section B the top two undefeated teams are drawn against each other in the final round.
With Jaybees and Mixed Grill two games clear of third-placed Rough Nuts, first and second will be determined by the final game.
Jaybees team of Jim Begley, Brendan Walsh, Cath Begley and Nakita Ross currently sit on top with a higher percentage over Mixed Grills’ Tom Pity, Anthony Burgess, Jenny Page and Alan Smith.
At the other end of the tables, Charlie’s Angels, Schmucks and FCJ Pink are vying for the wooden spoon in Section A, with the winless Sluggers having already secured the wooden spoon in Section B.
The next competition commences on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
